GAME DRIVE #8 PICTURE LINK - SECOND SET

This morning's game drive was our last, and we were kind of sad. We were ready to go, though, as we both believe that six game drives are enough. But we got a lot of good pictures on this game drive, so it's always hard to say!

Today we have a new driver/guide, George. He was such a different driver from Jackson. He drove really slow and gently so we weren't jarred around as much, and we had to barely even hold on! We could really enjoy the sights and scenery as we drove around. Everything wasn't a blur, and we actually started to find ourselves relaxing. It was good to experience someone different.

We also had new passengers with us, a family of four (mother, two sons, and daughter-in-law). They were really nice, and this was their second game drive so everything was really new to them still. We were "old hats" by now, as we felt we had seen and done everything. But George really opened our eyes to things.

By just driving very slowly and paying attention to any movements, we were able to find a lion pride within twenty minutes after leaving our camp. This pride consisted of two brothers, a lioness, and a cub. We watched them for awhile, and George told us lots of interesting facts about them. It was here that I got the best lion picture of all the 22 rolls of film that I had took of our trip. (The one of the brother laying his head on the other brother.)

Out of the corner of my eye, all of sudden here comes Mary the rhino! We haven't seen her since Game Drive #2. We followed her for awhile, and we were telling the others in our group how rare she is to see. They were very lucky. My gosh, lions and a rhino all in 30 minutes!

We went back and watched the lions for awhile, and then we headed for the hippo pool in the Mara River. I got one picture of two hippos fighting (jaws wide open) in the far distance. Pretty cool! I also got a great picture of the grey crowned crane. You'll find this bird on the country flag for Uganda.

As we started to head back to camp, we went and checked on the lion pride we had found earlier. They were up now and alert. The males have such gorgeous manes, and I got one especially spectacular picture of one of these brothers. I can't even believe that I took this picture as it's so good!

Close to the road that leads back to the camp, an elephant herd was on the move. We went in for a closer look and watched them. It was really neat to see. We even got to watch an elephant nurse, which is really rare. The mother's breasts are located between her two front legs.

A little bit later, two elephants in this herd got into a play fight. What an outstanding experience to hear their tusks crashing against each other and watching them wrestle with their trunks. But at the end they made up, with one laying its trunk on the other's head. Awwwww....

Make sure to check out the two picture links above of what I believe to be the best set of pictures of the all the game drives!
