GAME DRIVE #3 PICTURE LINK - SECOND SET

The goal of today's afternoon game drive is to check out a completely different area of the park. For our first two game drives, we went right as we came out of our camp. This time we went left. We'll drive around in the Olpunyata Swamp which is pretty marshy as you can tell in the pictures.

This being our third game drive, Jeff and I are catching on to how Jackson spots the wildlife. As we were driving along the road, all of sudden Jeff yells STOP! Right next to the road on a small hill was a lion! She was just lying there watching all the herds, probably scoping out dinner. We would have just drove past her if Jeff hadn't spotted her, as the rest of us were looking to the left at all the wildlife.

As we started to take off again, it wasn't even a minute later and Jeff yells STOP again! Not far from the lioness was a lion laying in the tall grass. He was gorgeous! This is another one of my favorite wildlife pictures as it shows a lion with a large scar on its face. Lions have to defend their prides, and it gets ugly. It was so awesome to be this close to a lion but also scary as all he had to do is take a small leap, and he would be in the jeep with us! Human meat for dinner instead of impala! Hummm.....

We then headed for a different hippo pool that's located at a bend in the Mara River. We saw a hippo that was giving birth, which I would have loved to stay and watched but hippos give birth under water. In the photograph, you can see a little of her right before she slipped back into the water.

We also saw our first Nile crocodile, yikes! This croc slid back into the water before I could get a full picture of it. We later came back to this same spot to see if we could find the hippo that was giving birth, but she was still under the water. But it all worked out as I was able to get better pictures of all of the crocodiles!

Next we went to the marshy area and saw lots of bird life, impalas, and our first waterbuck. We found a large herd of giraffes and spent some time observing them. At one point they crossed the road in front of us. They have such a bouncy but light footed walk. They are incredible creatures to watch!

As we headed back to camp, we came across a large heard of waterbucks. We also saw a herd of zebras who all promptly turned so I could get pictures of their butts again! They are so shy. As we were about to turn on the main road back to camp, I took a picture of a lone giraffe in the far distance against the savannah background.
